How to launch a loyalty programme in your café — without disrupting the queue
The biggest mistake independent cafés make with loyalty programmes is launching them like a tech product. Your loyalty programme needs to work at 8am on a Monday when the queue is six deep. Here's how to do it.

You've decided to start a loyalty programme. Good. Now forget everything you know about launching apps or digital products. A café loyalty programme lives or dies by how it fits into your counter workflow.
Step 1: Pick one reward, and make it achievable
Don't start with a ten-tier system. Don't start with birthday bonuses, double-points Tuesdays, and referral rewards. Start with one reward that a regular customer can realistically earn in two weeks.
A good first reward: Buy 8 coffees, get the 9th free. It's achievable in two weeks for someone who visits three times a week. It's valuable enough that they'll actually try. It costs you roughly one coffee in revenue, but earns you eight visits.
Step 2: Print one QR code. That's it.
Klicktify generates your QR code. Print it on an A5 card or a small table tent. Put it somewhere the customer sees it before they order — not after they've already paid and are leaving.
The ideal placement is at the edge of the counter, near where the customer stands. The barista doesn't have to explain it. The customer sees it, scans it, and in three seconds their loyalty card is on their phone.
Step 3: Tell your baristas, briefly
Your staff need to know two things: (1) if a customer scans the QR, they're checking in, and (2) that's good. That's it. Don't give them a 20-minute training on the dashboard. They'll figure it out when a customer asks.
Step 4: Don't hard-sell it
When someone orders their regular, you can say: "We have a loyalty card — scan the QR on the counter and your 9th coffee is on us." That's enough. If they say no, don't push. The ones who care will scan.
Step 5: Watch week two
After a week, open your Klicktify dashboard and look at check-ins. You'll see patterns immediately: which days are busiest, which customers are already close to a reward. That's your data. Use it.
The biggest failure mode
Most loyalty programmes fail because the café owner launches it, tells no one, puts the QR code in a corner, and then says "loyalty programmes don't work." The programme doesn't fail — the launch does. Put the QR code where customers look, and mention it at least once per shift.
Starting with Klicktify takes about five minutes. Set up your account and have your QR code before your next coffee rush.
